Attorney Caroline M. Hernandez

About Attorney Caroline Hernandez

A Lifelong Advocate for Justice and Community
My journey as an attorney began long before law school—it started with my family's story. As the daughter of Mexican and Guatemalan immigrants, I learned early that access to justice isn't guaranteed, and that sometimes you have to fight for what's right.

My Background

Born and raised on Chicago's southwest side, I've always been deeply connected to this community. After graduating from an all-girls Catholic high school, I pursued my passion for justice and service at Truman State University, where I earned degrees in Spanish and Political Science. My commitment to leadership and advocacy was recognized through numerous awards and active participation in student government.
At Marquette University Law School, I served as President of the Public Interest Law Society, reinforcing my dedication to using law as a tool for positive change. This foundation prepared me to serve as a Cook County Assistant State's Attorney, where I prosecuted DUI, traffic, domestic battery, drug cases, and felonies—gaining the courtroom experience that now benefits my clients every day.

Why I Do This Work

My time as a prosecutor opened my eyes to both sides of the criminal justice system. I saw how one mistake could derail someone's entire future, and how overwhelming debt could destroy families. This experience shaped my decision to advocate for individuals facing their darkest moments rather than against them.
Being bilingual isn't just a professional asset—it's personal. I understand the barriers that language and cultural differences can create in our legal system. When I represent Spanish-speaking clients, I'm not just translating words; I'm bridging worlds and ensuring their voices are truly heard.

Beyond the Law

My commitment to justice extends far beyond the courtroom. I'm passionate about advocating for our community's most vulnerable members—the homeless, those struggling with mental health issues, and immigrants seeking a better life. I actively support organizations like the YWCA, animal rescue groups, homeless advocacy organizations, and immigrant rights groups through fundraising and volunteer work.
When I'm not in the office, you'll find me quilting (a meditative practice that keeps me grounded), tending to my organic garden, or planning the next fundraiser for a cause close to my heart. These activities remind me that life is about more than legal victories—it's about building community and caring for one another.

My Promise to You

Whether you're facing criminal charges, drowning in debt, dealing with a DUI, or navigating family conflicts, I bring the same passion to your case that I bring to everything in my life. Your struggles are real, your story matters, and your future is worth fighting for.
I've spent over 20 years learning that the best legal outcomes come when you combine experience with genuine care for the people you serve. That's what you'll get when you work with me—an attorney who sees you as more than just a case number, and who will fight for you with the same determination I'd want for my own family.
"Justice isn't just my profession—it's my calling."
